William Anthony Herman

Bill grew up in East Coulee and after graduating from the University of Calgary in 1980, he joined Ross, Todd and Company and has been practicing law here ever since.

Bill has been very active in the community at all levels and has been Past-President of the Chamber of Commerce, on the Board of the Dinosaur Trail Golf Course, is presently the President of the Drumheller Curling Club, has been a Kinsman for many years, and involves himself in many other community associations.

Bill enjoys cycling, running, golf, and is a very proficient curler.

Colin Kloot

Colin was born in Namibia and schooled in the Republic of South Africa where he graduated from Rhodes University in 1980. Colin practiced law in the city of East London on the south eastern seaboard of South Africa until he and his family emigrated to Drumheller in 1999.

Colin joined the firm on the 1st of September, 1999, and has been a partner since 2002.

Colin represents the Town of Drumheller, various corporate and personal clients in all aspects of civil and criminal law.

Colin served as Chair on the Board of Directors of Legal Aid Alberta and is also involved in various community projects and associations such as Dinosaur Half Marathon, Ducks Unlimited, Past Vice-President of Titans Community Football Association, Legal Advisor to the local policy committee, Dinosaur Trail Golf Course, and Minor Hockey.

Colin, is married to Louise and they have a daughter Michelle and son Andrew.

Colin's interests are hunting, marathon running, and travelling.

André Wilkins

André grew up in South Africa, where he obtained his B. Proc., LL.B. and LL.M. from the University of Pretoria. He did his articles as a lawyer in Pretoria, where he qualified and was admitted as a solicitor in 1992. The focus of his practice as a solicitor was criminal defence and civil litigation. André then left the solicitor's profession and commenced practice as a Barrister at the Pretoria Bar in 2002 where he quickly developed a busy and successful general litigation practice.

Over his career of 20 years as a litigator, he has appeared as counsel in hundreds of trials, applications and appeals before courts and other tribunals at all levels. André moved to Canada in July 2011 with his wife Juanita and two daughters, Bronwynne (23) and Tana (21). He has a keen interest in sports and enjoys swimming, scuba diving, skiing, adventure bike riding and the odd work-out in the gym.

André became a partner on January 9, 2018. He served a 19 month stint with NSWB Law Firm in Weyburn, SK, before settling in Drumheller, AB, with the firm of Herman, Kloot & Company.

André will focus on serving the community with a wide variety of practice areas, including Real Estate, Personal Injury, Criminal Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, Civil Litigation and Family Law.

Emma Davis

Emma grew up in the DeWinton/Okotoks area. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia) in 2011 and then pursued her law degree at Bond University (Queensland, Australia) specialising in Canadian Law, in a condensed trimester program, and graduated in 2013.

Upon returning to Canada Emma received her NCA accreditation and joined Herman, Kloot & Company December 29, 2014 as a Student-at-Law. Emma was called to the bar February 4, 2016.

In her spare time Emma has been a previous participant in the Dinosaur Half Marathon among other shorter runs throughout Alberta along with her father.

Emma and her husband enjoy Drumheller and its surrounding areas and happily treat visiting family and friends to a tour of the Badlands whenever they can.

 

Jared Goruk (student-at-law)

Jared was born in Calgary and has also lived in Drayton Valley, Elk Point, Edmonton, Slave Lake, and Red Deer. He received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 2005, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Leicester in 2013, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Alberta in 2014 while completing his NCA accreditation requirements in 2015.

Jared has volunteered with and worked for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary at the Calgary Courts Centre, and was previously a high school teacher in Edmonton and on the Ermineskin First Nation. He was involved with the Canadian Law Society and the Public Speaking Society while attending the University of Leicester, and volunteered with Student Legal Services of Edmonton and Pro Bono Students Canada while attending the University of Alberta.

Jared joined Herman, Kloot & Company in 2017 as a student-at-law, and is expected to be called to the bar in the summer of 2018. Jared participates in the annual Walk for ALS in Red Deer in honour of his mother Carole, plays recreational hockey, and has been known for the occasional live musical performance.

Robert Douglas Ross, Q.C. (retired)

Born in Drumheller in April 1936, Bob's father and grandfather were doctors and were founder members of Drumheller associated physicians.

Bob was a founding member of Ross, Todd and Company, and has practiced law with the firm in Drumheller since 1963 and received the designation of Queen's Counsel in 1982. Bob retired as a partner of the firm in 2007, and since then has been able to devote more time to travelling the world.

Throughout his years in Drumheller, Bob has been very active in the community and has served at the highest levels on many Boards, associations, and cultural groups.

Bob has 3 children, Douglas, Anne, and Alan. Bob enjoys travelling, golf, and spending time with his 6 grandchildren.

Sharon Jean Clark (inactive)

After graduating from the University of Calgary in 1985, Sharon began the practise of law in 1986 and joined Ross Todd & Company (now Herman, Kloot & Company) in 1988. Her practise since that time has been largely in the field of family law, Queen's Bench litigation, wills and estates. Sharon has involved herself in the community and is a serving member and a former Chairperson of the Municipal Planning Commission and has served as a Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Family and Community Support Services and the Drumheller and Region Transition Society. She has been a presenter of the Parenting After Separation course.

Sharon is married to Gordon and until recently they owned property in Scottsdale, Arizona which necessitated an annual trip 'south'. Sharon's decision to become an inactive member of the Law Society was partially due to the retirement of her husband, the need to care for her elderly mother and her wish to spend more time enjoying her acreage and gardens. She will continue to be an avid member of a local fitness centre.
